Renminbi Makin Berkibar

Dewan Eksekutif IMF pada 30 November 2015 menuntaskan tinjauan atas keranjang mata uang Special Drawing Right (SDR). Mereka sepakat memasukkan mata uang Tiongkok, renminbi, sebagai mata uang kelima dalam keranjang SDR yang berlaku efektif mulai 1 Oktober 2016.

Masuknya Chinese renminbi dalam keranjang SDR mengubah komposisi atau bobot empat mata uang yang sampai sekarang menjadi acuan SDR. Bobot keempatnya turun. Dollar AS mengalami penurunan paling kecil, sedangkan euro turun paling tajam.

Renminbi langsung menduduki posisi ketiga. Sepantasnya memang demikian mengingat perekonomian Tiongkok merupakan yang terbesar kedua setelah Amerika Serikat. Euro bisa bertengger di posisi kedua karena menjadi mata uang bersama 18 dari 28 negara anggota Uni Eropa.

Renminbi dipandang telah memenuhi syarat untuk masuk keranjang SDR. Mata uang yang dijuluki redback ini semakin banyak digunakan sebagai alat pembayaran dalam transaksi global. Pada Januari 2013, renminbi baru berada di posisi ke-13. Setahun kemudian melonjak ke urutan ketujuh. Per Agustus 2015 naik lagi ke posisi keempat dengan porsi 22 persen. Nilai transaksi dalam renminbi hanya dikalahkan oleh dollar AS, euro, dan pound sterling. Menurut beberapa perkiraan, pada tahun 2050 transaksi dengan renminbi akan mencapai 50 persen dari seluruh transaksi di dunia (lihat “Red Carpet for the Redback,” Nikkei Asian Review, No. 105, December 7-13, 2015, hal. 22-25).itu

Mata uang dua negara ASEAN masuk dalam 13 besar dunia, yaitu baht Thailand di urutan ke-10 dan dollar Singapura di urutan ke-11.

Faisal Basri is currently senior lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia and Chief of Advisory Board of Indonesia Research & Strategic Analysis (IRSA). His area of expertise and discipline covers Economics, Political Economy, and Economic Development. His prior engagement includes Economic Adviser to the President of Republic of Indonesia on economic affairs (2000); Head of the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Faculty of Economics at the University of Indonesia (1995-98); and Director of Institute for Economic and Social Research at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Indonesia (1993-1995), the Commissioner of the Supervisory Commission for Business Competition (2000-2006); Rector, Perbanas Business School (1999-2003). He was the founder of the National Mandate Party where he was served in the Party as the first Secretary General and then the Deputy Chairman responsible for research and development. He quit the Party in January 2001. He has actively been involved in several NGOs, among others is The Indonesian Movement. Faisal Basri was educated at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Indonesia where he received his BA in 1985 and graduated with an MA in economics from Vanderbilt University, USA, in 1988.
